David is originally from South Africa where he was the Pastor of a Presbyterian congregation in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal. Prior to that he was in business and banking. He has degrees in finance, economics and theology. He also holds an MBA from the University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business. He left the business world to serve the Lord fulltime in 1987. He was ordained into the ministry in 1993.

David and Margie moved to Australia in 2009 and have become Australian citizens. Initially he served four congregations in the Eastern Wheatbelt at Merredin, Mukinbudin, Bruce Rock and Southern Cross. He was called to Lighthouse Church in 2013.

In the wider church, David is involved with the Uniting Church as a member of the Pastoral Relations & Placements Commission. 

He rides motorbikes for fun and is a "patched" member of the Christian Motorcyclists Association. He rides a Honda VTX1300
